Chelsea Boat Clock
350
Here for your consideration is a very nice official U.S. Navy ships clock made by the Chelsea Clock Company of Boston, Massachusetts. The Chelsea Clock Company was known for their fine high grade precision clock movements which the U.S. Navy required. Many clock cases were made of bakelite so they would not corrode on the salty high seas as is this beauty. Also the ports in the back all seal with the flick of a lever. I just had this beauty serviced and is ready to go for another 50 or 60 years. This clock has quite a provenance. As we all know, John F. Kennedy was commander of a PT boat 109. In fact, a movie was made from the episode when Kennedy allowed his PT boat to be in harm's way and cut in two by a Japanese gun boat. General MacArthur recommended that JFK be court marshaled for dereliction of duty. Because of his powerful father, Joe Kennedy, JFK was actually decorated instead of thrown in the brig. Isn't that a pistol? Well the provenance is that this very clock was mounted on the bulkhead of JFK's previous PT boat. The clock still has the bulkhead fastener hardware on the back, so this clock was actually viewed and perhaps even wound by president John F. Kennedy. Also has the second bit. Aside from any historic or personal value, it is a real collector's piece that keeps perfect time. This is a nice conversation piece that is actually functional as well. Measures 9" x 3" deep. There is a Chelsea Clock Company Society of people, as these fine old clocks are known as the perhaps the best ever made American clocks. They of course have precision hair spring movements and are collectible, unlike the newer electronic clocks. Nonetheless, I would discount it for $350 plus $20 shipping and insurance. Hope you can give it a good home.
