Adja Yunkers (1900 - 1983)
Adja Yunkers was a major 20th century abstract impressionist printmaker and painter. He was born in Latvia and studied in Leningrad, Berlin, Paris and London. He worked in Paris from 1925 until 1939 when he moved to Stockholm where he edited and published several art magazines. In 1947, he settled permanently in the New York City. He taught at the New School for Social Research and the Cooper Union Art School. He exhibited his work at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Guggenheim Museum and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among others. His work is in private collections and museums in Europe and the U.S. including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
